How the Nikon Perfect Focus System Works
- Infrared Light Source: Uses IR light, reducing photodamage and bleaching in live cells.
- Dedicated Optical Path: IR light hits the sample via a path that includes a dichroic mirror, allowing visible light through.
- Reflected Light Detection: IR light reflection from the cover glass-sample surface is detected.
- Focus Offset Detection: Continuous measurement of reflected IR light position to detect focal shifts or drifts.
- Automatic Correction: Corrects focus in real-time by adjusting the lens or stage when shifts or drifts are detected.
Benefits of Nikon Perfect Focus System(PFS):
- Near Effortless swapping of samples at different focal ranges: Swapping samples with focal planes within the PFS range allows for fast refocusing.
- Long-term Observations: Enables the continuous observation of live cells over extended periods.
- Minimizing Phototoxicity: By keeping the focus precise, the need for frequent manual adjustments and the associated increased light exposure is reduced.
- Automated Multi-well Plate Scanning: Allows for the automated and consistent focus across different wells in a multi-well plate.
- Embryo Imaging: Provides the stability needed to image developing embryos over time.
- Neuron Activity Studies: The system can maintain focus on specific areas of the brain or neural cultures over long periods.
- Reduced Photobleaching: By maintaining focus with minimal adjustments, the PFS helps in reducing exposure to intense light.
- Improved Z-stacking: Ensures consistent focus across multiple z-planes.
- Stable Time-lapse Sequences: Vital for capturing time-lapse sequences where a consistent focus is required to document changes over time accurately.
- Surface Topography Studies: Maintaining focus is essential for accurately mapping surface topographies and understanding material properties.
- Drug Response Monitoring: Allows for the detailed observation of cellular responses to drug treatments over time.
This microscope's imaging capabilities:

How do you pack? Have you previously packed and shipped a Nikon Eclipse TI-E PFS microscope? Do you ship Internationally?
Packing
- Smaller microscopes ship via UPS Parcel Delivery with adequate packing material and a strong box. Or, when combined with other orders, it may be packed in a crate.
- Most larger microscopes ship in fully enclosed ISPM15-certified wooden crates with proper padding underneath, and the sides have moving components braced.
- Accessories are packed safely in boxes with padding and then safely packed inside the crate.
- We may not use a crate for local deliveries to save you money *if delivered by us.
- We often use “tilt’ & “shock” indicators on the crates to ensure the crate has not been excessively tilted and dropped where equipment may suffer damage.
- Photos are taken during the packing process to make sure nothing is missed.
USA/Canada Shipping
- Within the US and Canada, we will ship via selected freight carriers. We do not use low-price/high-damage carriers as we want the equipment to get safely to you.
International Shipping
- Internationally, we will only ship via Air Freight or Air Parcel (such as UPS or DHL), which provides reliability, no exposure to Ocean weather, and timely delivery.
We have extensive experience packing and shipping fragile microscopes globally.
Our experience and process
- We have safely packed and shipped thousands of sensitive analytical instruments.
How much will I save buying it pre-owned, and is it worth it?
A lot…and it is undoubtedly worth it, and here is why. Feel free to ask for feedback from hundreds of customers who bought from us.
- When compared to buying a new one, you will save up to 60% to 80% and have plenty of funds left over for an additional instrument or two.
- You will get our standard warranty, plus, when available, an option to obtain an extended warranty agreement.
- Know that your microscope was tested and working the day it left our facility and is covered if there are faults.
Sustainability
- This one is easy: buying a pre-owned instrument is great for the planet; you are reducing unnecessary waste, CO2 output, and water use that would be used during the manufacturing process.
