COMMON CUSTOMER QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BELOW

What steps do you take to verify, service, and confirm the functionality of the Nikon SMZ1270 Stereo Microscope?

We verify various microscope functions individually and together, performing necessary repairs or maintenance to bring the microscope to our quality standards.

  • We verified the functionality of the LED light source.

  • We confirmed proper operation of the base illumination path.

  • We inspected the objective and confirmed optical clarity.

  • We tested the full range of internal magnification and found it consistent throughout.

  • We assessed the mechanical Z-axis focus mechanism and verified smooth, precise movement.

  • We tested all height adjustment components and confirmed reliable operation.

  • We evaluated the port-splitter and confirmed correct image routing between the camera and eyepieces.

  • We confirmed stable connectivity between the camera and a laptop.

  • We tested the live video feed and observed clear, real-time image output.

The microscope exhibited no functional issues during testing. It produced sharp, clear images through both the eyepieces and the camera port. All mechanical components operated smoothly, and the system easily achieved focus on the test sample without any mechanical resistance. This unit is in excellent working condition and ready for laboratory use.

Can you help me identify the best microscope and configuration for me?

We are here to help.

  • Contact us with your application; we will help you identify the best microscope configuration.
  • We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; you should get a microscope that will do what you need.

Can I view the Nikon SMZ1270 Stereo Microscope in person at your facility or do a live Zoom demo before it is shipped to me?

We invite you to visit our facility for an on-site demo, or feel free to request a virtual Zoom demo of the microscope you are interested in.

What about the warranty? Installation, training, maintenance?

Warranty Terms:

  • The microscope is fully warranted for parts and labor.
  • The customer should retain all packing materials during the warranty period.

Installation & Training:

Option 1 – In Person

If your lab is located within two hours of Boston, we may be able to offer in-person installation and training in person.

Option 2 – Remote/Virtual

Our remote training is conducted via Zoom, allowing us to significantly reduce its cost and offer it to customers outside our travel area.

Both training options include:

  • Review of the microscope and its capabilities.
  • Microscope and software operation.
  • Review of the recommended maintenance procedures.

We generally recommend these training services to anyone who is new to this microscope model.

What should I watch out for when buying a Nikon SMZ1270 Stereo Microscope used/pre-owned from another lab?
  • Make sure the microscope is properly packed for shipping and will arrive safely. If the microscope has many components, request to have it packed in a wooden crate.
  • Confirm that there is no physical damage or any misaligned internal components.
  • Ask what accessories are included.
  • Ask how long the warranty is and what it covers.

Here is what our technical team tests so you can request something similar and ensure your microscope will be fully functional.

We recommend inspecting the microscope in person with your sample or requesting a virtual demo; this will allow you to evaluate the condition and performance of the microscope you are considering purchasing.

Do you have a Nikon SMZ1270 Stereo Microscope on hand?
  • Yes, this is a common microscope model we carry, and we stock multiple accessories and many replacement parts to back up our warranty.

I found it elsewhere for less. What goes into your price?

We acknowledge that sometimes you can purchase this microscope model elsewhere, possibly for less.

Here are some of the reasons for our price.

  • Our microscope will be fully serviced.
  • It will be customized and configured to your requirements.
  • We may offer longer standard warranty terms.
  • We cover shipping costs during the warranty period. (Customer is required to save packing materials for the duration).
  • We have to employ technical staff that can do the testing/repairs and after-sales support if there are any issues.
  • We invest considerable time into the testing and service of each microscope we sell.
  • We have to purchase any missing required accessories to make the microscopes complete.
  • We have to procure and stock service parts to fulfill our warranty.
  • We have extensive experience packing sensitive instruments. See the shipping section in the website menu for info on how not to pack.
  • We guarantee that the microscope will be functional.

This procurement is for a University or College. Are purchase orders with NET terms accepted?
  • If you are a US or Canadian customer, we are likely already a registered vendor in your University's vendor system. This would greatly expedite the process of PO approvals and get this instrument into your lab faster.
  • POs are accepted from US and Canadian universities.

How fast will you ship?
  • We can ship within a few days to 2 weeks, depending on your required microscope customization.

Will my microscope be insured during shipping?
  • All microscopes shipped within the USA and internationally are fully insured. This applies as long as we are the shipper and handle shipping arrangements.
  • If the buyer handles shipping, then shipping insurance responsibility falls to the buyer; we highly advise that the buyer obtain shipping insurance from their carrier.

How do you pack? Have you previously packed and shipped a Nikon SMZ1270 Stereo Microscope? Do you ship Internationally?

Packing

  • Smaller microscopes ship via UPS Parcel Delivery with adequate packing material and a strong box. Or, when combined with other orders, it may be packed in a crate.
  • Most larger microscopes ship in fully enclosed ISPM15-certified wooden crates with proper padding underneath, and the sides have moving components braced.
  • Accessories are packed safely in boxes with padding and then safely packed inside the crate.
  • We may not use a crate for local deliveries to save you money *if delivered by us.
  • We often use “tilt’ & “shock” indicators on the crates to ensure the crate has not been excessively tilted and dropped where equipment may suffer damage.
  • Photos are taken during the packing process to make sure nothing is missed.

USA/Canada Shipping

  • Within the US and Canada, we will ship via selected freight carriers. We do not use low-price/high-damage carriers as we want the equipment to get safely to you.

International Shipping

  • Internationally, we will only ship via Air Freight or Air Parcel (such as UPS or DHL), which provides reliability, no exposure to Ocean weather, and timely delivery.
We have extensive experience packing and shipping fragile microscopes globally.

Our experience and process

  • We have safely packed and shipped thousands of sensitive analytical instruments.

How much will I save buying it pre-owned, and is it worth it?

A lot…and it is undoubtedly worth it, and here is why. Feel free to ask for feedback from hundreds of customers who bought from us.

  • When compared to buying a new one, you will save up to 60% to 80% and have plenty of funds left over for an additional instrument or two.
  • You will get our standard warranty, plus, when available, an option to obtain an extended warranty agreement.
  • Know that your microscope was tested and working the day it left our facility and is covered if there are faults.
Sustainability
  • Well, this one is easy: buying a pre-owned microscope is great for the planet; you are reducing unnecessary waste, CO2 output, and water use that would be used during the manufacturing process.
